A calmer place to study

Ironwood’s study tools have grown, and this update gives them a more consistent home. Dark sunken sections separate related controls and results, gold headings identify each group, and raised gold buttons mark primary actions. The same treatment carries through training, saved games, board themes, engine settings, online lobbies, and the Position Editor.

Give each tool room to work

Tactical Map now has Insights, Activity, and Patterns tabs. Opponent threats and What changed share the available vertical space as you resize the window. A short list leaves room for a longer one; entries scroll when needed.

Pawn Structure, King Safety, Piece Mobility, Opening Explorer, and Tablebases use the same recessed sections. Diagrams and selectors adapt to narrow panes, while wide views keep controls compact. Game Analysis leaves its controls and tabs in place as the content below scrolls.

Record the lesson

Notes now offers Add note and Edit note buttons alongside the existing double-click shortcuts. Its editor has a sunken writing area and a gold Save note button. Draw on board keeps its title draggable, with separate sections for drawing styles, ghost pieces, and saved drawings.

The Position Editor groups arrangement, piece selection, screenshot import, position details, and FEN controls. These are presentation changes: notes and drawings still belong to their recorded positions.

Keep account access separate from the board

Signing in to Lichess no longer takes over the board or disconnects FICS by itself. The account session can supply Opening Explorer access while FICS remains connected. Tablebases need no login.

Only one game controls the board. A background Lichess event cannot replace an active FICS game, and study tools remain unavailable during live online play and training. Finish the game, then use the study panels to review it.
