Lichess player profiles

Browse any player, compare ratings, inspect performance and activity, and preview notable games.

Open your account or another player

Click the bottom Lichess button, then choose Player profile in the lobby. Enter a username and choose Load player, or choose My account while signed in. The window title identifies the player’s name and account ID. Public profiles can be browsed by username; account-specific actions require your Lichess sign-in.

Use Load in new window, or reopen Player profile from the lobby, to compare players. Each gold-bordered window has its own player, selected time control, date range, and position. Drag or resize it to fit your workspace.

Move a profile to a separate browser window

Click the raised ↗ button beside Close in the profile title bar to move that profile out of the main workspace. The new window keeps its username, time control, date range, and open performance details. The profile fills the browser area; move the browser window to another monitor or resize it independently. In-app profiles can be moved by dragging their headers. Allow pop-ups for Ironwood if your browser blocks it; the original profile stays open when the pop-up cannot be created.

Keep the main Ironwood window open: the separate profile shares its Lichess connection and profile data. Playback opens in the profile window, while Review on Ironwood sends the game to the main board, subject to its active-play restrictions. You can move multiple player profiles into separate windows.

Biography and game record

The profile displays public biography information, ratings, membership date, last activity, playing time, and overall game record when Lichess provides them. Missing fields are omitted. Biography and website links open in new tabs. The FIDE rating links to the player’s FIDE page when an ID is available, or the FIDE directory otherwise.

Overall Games, Rated, Wins, Losses, and Draws are account-wide counts. They can differ from one time control’s performance record or from the latest games shown below. A rating followed by ? is provisional; — means that category has no established rating.

Rating history

Expand Rating history to load the graph; it starts collapsed so opening a profile does not first download its history. Select Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, Classical, or Correspondence, then 1M, 3M, 6M, YTD, 1Y, or ALL. Hover the graph for a date and rating. The graph has its own recessed paper surface.

Use Refresh rating history to request an update. The existing chart stays visible while it refreshes.

A player can have many casual games but little rated history. Try ALL or another time control if the graph is empty. You can load another username to explore the interface without changing your account or rating.

Detailed performance

Click a time-control rating chip to open Performance details. Available statistics include rating, rank, percentile, average opponent rating, highest and lowest ratings, games and results, playing time, disconnects, and current/longest win and loss streaks. Not every player or category has all fields. The Puzzles chip does not open these details.

Best wins and Worst losses show up to five games each. Their mini boards use the same playback and review controls as recent games. Refresh reloads that performance section and retries previews; Close details hides it. Results are shared across profile windows for the same player and time control. Existing statistics and previews stay visible while refreshing.

Recent games and playback

Expand or collapse Recent games using its heading. It starts expanded and loads independently of rating history. Refresh recent games requests an update while keeping the previous list visible. It lists the latest 12 completed games across time controls, with player colors, ratings when available, result, time control, and opening information.

Hover a mini board to see its gold border and magnifying-glass indicator. Click it for the larger move viewer, which identifies White, Black, and the result. Use step controls or autoplay to watch the game without replacing your current board or adding it to Saved Games.

The right-hand controls offer:

  • Open game on Lichess: open the original game in a new browser tab.
  • Review on Ironwood: load the complete game on the main board for analysis and annotations. Finish active training or online play first.

Full-board profile reviews are temporary. To keep one, choose Play → Save current game. This saves the complete game even if the board is currently at the starting position. Games without any moves are not added to the library.

Following players

Sign in to use Follow or Unfollow. These change your following list on Lichess. If an older authorization lacks access, use the offered sign-in-again control.

Expand Following, search the list, and select a player to open their profile. Refresh following reloads the list. Following a player does not import their games or start a challenge.

Daily activity

Expand Activity to load recent daily game and puzzle results. Dates show wins, losses, and draws by time control, with before/after ratings when supplied, and puzzle results when available. Refresh activity reloads this section. It loads on demand, shares cached results across profiles of the same player, and keeps existing results visible during refresh.

This is activity reported by Lichess. It does not represent your local Ironwood training profiles or puzzle progress.

Cached data and refresh

Profile windows share data within the main app’s signed-in session, including detached profiles that use that connection. Reopening a player can show cached information immediately while an expired entry is updated. Simultaneous requests for the same data share one download.

Recent-game lists can be reused for 1 minute; profile details, activity, and performance statistics for 5 minutes; rating history and completed-game previews for 30 minutes. Preview downloads request only games not already cached. Each section’s Refresh control bypasses its cache. These bounded caches are held in memory and clear on disconnect or page reload; they are not Saved Games or a backup.

Loading problems

Use the affected section’s Refresh control to retry. Imports, study refresh, and ordinary online-play requests share a request queue and rate-limit pause; live game streams remain independent. If Lichess is limiting requests, wait at least a full minute, or longer when its retry interval requires it. A failed game preview does not necessarily mean the profile statistics failed; the game link can still open on Lichess. Empty history and a network error are different conditions. See Troubleshooting for browser and storage precautions.
